3000 Years (III)

Present-day

A young-looking, tall, dark-skinned, muscular man walked through the streets of a small town somewhere in the UK countryside, greeting people he saw as he walked by them.

He turned a corner and waited at the crosswalk, waiting for the light to turn green. An elderly lady with filled grocery bags walked up beside him.

“Good afternoon Mrs Calliope, could I help you with those?” He asked.

She looked up at him and smiled, “Why thank you, dear. You’re too kind”.

“No thanks necessary, I’m just trying to do my part for the community”, he replied, returning her smile.

When the light turned green he helped her cross, “Would you like me to help carry these the whole way home?”

“Oh no, dear. You’ve done plenty already, I can manage from here”, she said.

“Alright then, if you insist. Have a nice afternoon, Mrs Calliope”, he said, waving to her as he walked away, “Say hi to the grandkids for me”.

“Thank you, I will.”, Mrs Calliope said before walking back to her house.

The man continued to walk forward, towards his local convenience store to pick up some ingredients for dinner.

After about five more minutes of walking, he arrived at the convenience store. A bell rang when he pushed the door open and stepped inside.

“Hi, can I help you with-”, the man standing behind the register started saying, looking up to greet the customer.

“Haynes?” the man standing in front of the door asked, an extremely puzzled look on his face.

“Willy? Is that you?”
