3000 Years (II)

He held his palm out towards William and shot out a column of flames towards him, scorching the ground under them. William lazily side-stepped to avoid being hit.

William crouched, bending his legs, and leapt forwards toward Thomas, his fist clenched and his arm drawn back. His fist made impact square in the middle of Thomas’ face with a satisfying crunch. Thomas reeled back, staggering. Blood was pouring out of his nose, and he spit some out off to the side.

No longer grinning, he stomped his foot hard on the ground, bringing up stone pillars around William which closed in quickly.

William jumped up, avoiding the attack, and kicked his feet up at an angle, propelling him down toward Thomas. He grabbed Thomas by the front of his cloak and threw him on the ground.

“When will you stop this, Thomas? Surely you must be getting tired of losing to me”, William asked, a pleading look on his face.

“On the contrary, my dear William, I’m just getting started. And one of these days, William, you’ll find someone whom you won’t be able to save. You can’t save everyone. Someone will die in front of you, and you won’t be able to do anything about it”, Thomas said, looking up at William defiantly.

Leaping backwards and off the ground, Thomas raised his hand, aiming it towards the sky and flinging it down towards the ground, summoning a bolt of lightning which struck the ground right where William stood.

When the dust and smoke from the bolt cleared, William wasn’t there. All that remained was a pile of ashes being blown away by the wind.

“Huh?” Thomas thought aloud, “it couldn’t have been that easy, the lightning shouldn’t have been able to completely disintegrate him”.

He looked around with his hands up and ready, anticipating an attack from William coming from any direction, but it didn’t come. The triumphant villain stood at the edge of the village, alone and perplexed.
